Most of us have been doing the same skin care routine since our twenties. Cleanse and moisturize when you get up; repeat when you go to bed. But this just doesn’t make sense. According to dermatologists, if your skin has grown more dry or sensitive over the years, it may be worth shifting your routine slightly to cater to its needs. Consider the following:
In the morning: Instead of undergoing an entire routine, rinse with cool water. This will refresh your skin for the day without stripping the skin of its natural oils. Add moisturizer and sunscreen as you normally would
In the afternoon: Treat yourself to a bonus moisture boost. Take your moisturizer with you in a travel container and, instead of a vending-machine break, treat your skin with an extra dose of hydration. This is helpful especially if your skin is feeling tight in the middle of the day.
In the evening: This is when skin is dirtiest, so definitely stick with the cleansing routine before bed. Use a creamy cleanser, or at the very least, keep suds to a minimum. After rinsing and patting dry, use a gentle exfoliator once a week. Whether it’s exfoliation day or not, top with your moisturizer (such as Calendula Nourish) while skin is still damp to lock in moisture.
